Help us please for Christmas...

Posted on Dec 5th, 2008 by Asteri : StarChild Asteri
Help_me

We live in troubled times... and also is near Christmas... and I would like to write about the ones without any rights, or Christmas, or a warm place to sleep or to die... I will write about the animals dyeing right now in animal shelters, because of us, because our lack of love and respect for life...

Have decided to open this subject because of the two different reasons that I will disclose below. First, for who does not know me, I work as a volunteer in an animal shelter... I will not disclose name or city... because it is not relevant...

My boyfriend kept asking me for 4-5 weeks now, ever Sunday morning... "are you going today to the shelter?" and my answer was "No" and different silly reasons... So I have realized finally that I avoid even to talk to myself about the thing which is bothering me...

The second reason is that I had 2 friends asking me lately "Do they kill them?" and my answer was "Of course they do, look at the statistics, is public information"... So my friends got upset and refused to participate in helping those shelters with the monthly contribution... and I do not talk about one, I just talk about all of them, shelters, pounds or any other  places where animals get dumped and killed...

The thing which is bothering me is that I have done this for a year... I love  the people working there, and I love the animals... But is cold and I know that the dogs are sitting on the wet concrete and they get sick and after they get killed... and where is the right thing that I believe in? Why do I help when they get killed anyway? Yes, I help 10% of them which survive, but who am I to decide or to watch it? Do I have the right to accept it? No, I do not think so...

The second thing is that people are not informed or they do not wish to be informed... That people are not educated to save and respect life in any form...

My thing is that now is Friday night and Sunday morning I will feel guilty for not going, and guilty for going and not taking all of them home with me...  And if someone can give me an advice, I would really appreciate it...

Is near Christmas, and I would ask all of you reading this, from the bottom of my heart, for you in love with animals, please give one a home this Christmas... This is the only Christmas wish I have...

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" Mahatma Gandhi

Animal rights = human rights.

I respect and love you all... and please forgive me if I give you tears, I just had mine while writing these...

Joke

Posted on Dec 8th, 2008 by Asteri : StarChild Asteri
"A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and
spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted, "Excuse me, can
you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't
know where I am."

The woman below replied, "You are in a hot air balloon hovering
approximately 30 feet above the ground. You are between 40 and 41 degrees
north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."

"You must be an accountant" said the balloonist.

"I am," replied the woman, "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is, technically
correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact
is I am still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help so far."

The woman below responded, "You must be in Management."

"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you are
going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air.
You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect people
beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same
position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault."

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa!

Waiting-for-santa-christmas-scene

My Christmas gift to you... we are all one soul living on one blue planet... Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa! Happy celebrations of Light!

"The Little Prince said, "People start out in express trains, but they no longer know what they're looking for. Then they get excited and rush around in circles..." And he added, "It's not worth the trouble..."
The well we had come to was not at all like the wells of the Sahara. The wells of the Sahara are no more than holes dug in the sand. This one looked more like a village well. But there was no village here, and I thought I was dreaming.
"It's strange", I said to the little prince, "everything is ready: the pulley, the bucket, and the rope..."
He laughed, grasped the rope, and set the pulley working. And the pulley groaned the way an old weather vane groans when the wind has been asleep a long time.
"Hear that? said the little prince. "We've awakened this well and it's singing."
I didn't want him to tire himself out. "Let me do that, " I said to him. "it's too heavy for you."
Slowly I hoisted the bucket to the edge of the well. I set it down with great care. The song of the pulley continued in my ears, and I saw the sun glisten on the still-trembling water.
"I'm thirsty for that water," said the little prince. "Let me drink some..."
And I understood what he'd been looking for!
I raised the bucket to his lips. He drank, eyes closed. It was sweet as a feast. The water was more than merely a drink. It was born of our walk beneath the stars, of the song of the pulley, of the effort of my arms. It did good to the heart, like a present. When I was a little boy, the Christmas-tree lights, the music of mid-night mass, the tenderness of people's smiles made up, in the same way, the whole radiance of the Christmas present I received.
"People where you live", the little prince said, "grow five thousand roses in one garden... yet they don't find what they are looking for..."
"They don't find it," I answered.
"And yet what they are looking for could be found in a single rose, or a little water..."
"Of course, " I answered.
And the little prince added, "But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart."

Pray_for_them_to_get_back_home

It is a time of Joy and family gathering... please give one moment of your Joy for the ones which are not at home with their families... for their families... and for those that will never have a chance to get back home...

Pray and honor them... their sacrifice... their Joy of doing something for a greater good, for their gift to all of us to sleep without being worried every night...

I thank each of you for the gift I am receiving every day...

Blessed be your hearts...

Merry Christmas...

What song or poem or work of art best captures your mood?

Posted on Dec 23rd, 2008 by Asteri : StarChild Asteri
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 23, 2008:

Ithaca
When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.

Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.

Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.

Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.

And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean.

Constantine P. Cavafy (1911)
