Help us please for Christmas...

We live in troubled times... and also is near Christmas... and I would like to write about the ones without any rights, or Christmas, or a warm place to sleep or to die... I will write about the animals dyeing right now in animal shelters, because of us, because our lack of love and respect for life...

Have decided to open this subject because of the two different reasons that I will disclose below. First, for who does not know me, I work as a volunteer in an animal shelter... I will not disclose name or city... because it is not relevant...

My boyfriend kept asking me for 4-5 weeks now, ever Sunday morning... "are you going today to the shelter?" and my answer was "No" and different silly reasons... So I have realized finally that I avoid even to talk to myself about the thing which is bothering me...

The second reason is that I had 2 friends asking me lately "Do they kill them?" and my answer was "Of course they do, look at the statistics, is public information"... So my friends got upset and refused to participate in helping those shelters with the monthly contribution... and I do not talk about one, I just talk about all of them, shelters, pounds or any other  places where animals get dumped and killed...

The thing which is bothering me is that I have done this for a year... I love  the people working there, and I love the animals... But is cold and I know that the dogs are sitting on the wet concrete and they get sick and after they get killed... and where is the right thing that I believe in? Why do I help when they get killed anyway? Yes, I help 10% of them which survive, but who am I to decide or to watch it? Do I have the right to accept it? No, I do not think so...

The second thing is that people are not informed or they do not wish to be informed... That people are not educated to save and respect life in any form...

My thing is that now is Friday night and Sunday morning I will feel guilty for not going, and guilty for going and not taking all of them home with me...  And if someone can give me an advice, I would really appreciate it...

Is near Christmas, and I would ask all of you reading this, from the bottom of my heart, for you in love with animals, please give one a home this Christmas... This is the only Christmas wish I have...

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" Mahatma Gandhi

Animal rights = human rights.

I respect and love you all... and please forgive me if I give you tears, I just had mine while writing these...

Oh, this so moving! You’ve made me teary-eyed too. There’s no need to apologize about crying for these mistreated animals. My Dutch friend whom I mentioned in an earlier blog is also into caring for stray street dogs. She works with a few others to find dogs needing care and treatment and when they’re healthy again they offer them to interested families  without charge. That you are saving even just 10% of the animals that survive is a great achievement so carry on. Hopefully others will take up the cause with you! Hugs, Asteri!

Hey honey. No need to apologise for your tears; we are all thinking and feeling persons!

As always Gandhi hit the nail on the head!

I truly want to have my own place where I can keep a pet or two - especially a dog or two! - so that I can give love to an otherwise unwanted animal. [And, well, to get some dog love back too! lol]

If more single persons took in a homeless animal, don’t you think the world would be naturally enriched with more love?

Pardon my rambling a little. I’m simply too moved with the love that I feel for those animals. And for your dear heart, Lili.

Love always, Sherri

Thanks Mila and Sherri… This morning my big dog started to act funny at the door and woke me up… I feed stray cats, have 3 outside, and also saw some possums lately sharing the food with the cats… but this morning there were two huge white dogs… beautiful white dogs… like coming out from the story, remember The Never Ending Story? Now feeling the morning touch, I wonder if it was just a dream… Love to you…

I adopted my cat from the shelter…he was “on the list” as he was already a year old and you know everyone wants the babies when they adopt.

I urge everyone to adopt a pet from the shelter if they can find…or Make room in their hearts for an animal companion!

It is good for you and it’s good for them…a win-win situation!

Thanks Ariela for adopting… is all we can do, and like Sherri said… “If more single persons took in a homeless animal, don’t you think the world would be naturally enriched with more love?”

I have seen recent statistics even more disturbing Lili. Seems that people are dumping dogs and cats off even more to “save money” in this economy. Some are facing foreclosure, some are simply expendable to the people.

I am heartbroken.

I know what you are talking about, but had to use public information… posted online… yes, we will dump everybody finally just for the love of money and comfort… This is how we are, sad but true…

Thank you Aley…

One of my good friends lost his dog, he was slow moving towards the end of his life.  And then months later he got two black labs and I just love playing with them by throwing the ball  and they kept on giving it back to me.  The younger smaller one, whenever he was the one who caught the ball will give it to his older brother to give it back to me.  They are just so sweet and I feel for the younger one also as he is so giving.
Thank you for this blog.

WOW …that is so sweet to do, with the ball…

Thanks Samme… I had a moment in my life when I lost everything… and the only being which shared with me all the “nothing” I had was my dog… They are just Angels… He did not judge me, he did not complain because we did not have food, neither arguing for my decisions… He just loved me through my decisions process…

Hugs…

Mona, we save more cats and dogs then most people would ever believe.
The three dogs we have right now were all rescued from deplorable living conditions. Bless You.

A friend of mine just bought a house, and with it came a mamma cat, three feral kittens and one huge Tom cat. A neighbor took one kitten, my friend took in the other two - he had originally taken only one, but the runt wasn’t happy alone. The mamma cat was taken in by another neighbor and now only the Tom remains. I have urged him to have all of the the cats spayed or neutered. It pains me to think that animals are ever abandoned. I would take in more if I could… I have raised my daughters to know that a pet is a LIFE LONG commitment… until you or the pet dies. No discussion. If you can’t make that commitment - don’t get a pet. The same thing applies when having children… it is a life long commitment. Thank you for writing this blog.

Hugs!

We have always gotten our animals from shelters, with the exception of one or two that were gifts.

Our latest prize was gotten from the humane Society after the death of our wonderful 13 year old dog. See pic of both on my photos. “Biggles” was originally thrown over a fence; then he was adopted and either ran away or was thrown out, (he tends toward skin problems, had diahrea when he first came home)–then he ended up at animal services, where he was spotted by the Humane Society who had hime the first time. He had two days to live. He is now our sweetie who has joined 2 cats (also from shelters) and is thriving. He has been with us almost two years.

People don’t value the life of people, how do you expect them to honor animals. Yes, we are having the same problem; with the economy, people can no longer keep their pets. also, i live in Florida; when people come here for a short time, they get a dog, (maybe for protection) then when they leave, they dump them.

One thing that must be done is to make ALL crimes against animals, a felony.

I really give you credit; there is no way I could do what you are doing.

Thank you Susan & Sherri… Finally watched the video, it was really amazing…

Cindy - the world we are living in is sad sometimes, but you know, when i am there with them, and even they know they are going to die, they make tricks or laugh in their way… I saw one day a baby lab, did not know he was preparing to go to that room… and i asked him something, he was waving his tail, and smiling… I will never ever forget his smile… hope he is an angel somewhere now… and that this world we are living in is not everything we’ve got, because it will be too sad…

This brought tears to my eyes.  3 Christmases ago, I got my beautiful husky from an animal rescue.  Luckily, the rescues do not kill the dogs - even if they have a bad temperament.  In fact, the rescues just house the animals there as their own pets & take care of them until they are suitable for adoption.  My sweet Macy was so timid & scared.  She was frightened by every little thing.  Now, 3 years later, she is much better, handles being around men who are strangers better, is a better judge of character, and is just Mommy and Daddy’s little Monkey!! I can’t imagine if she had been sent to a pound - she is the sweetest thing and it breaks my heart because all these animals want and need - is love.

Bless you for posting this.  We always need a gentle reminder about the life outside of our own reality.

Thank you Rachel… Finally all they can do is to wait for us… to give them a chance to be angels on this side of life, or on the other side… Either way, they do not hate us… they just love us… when we will be able to understand this… I do not know…

After writing this comment I switched to my friend’s blogs and here isthe link which touched my heart…

An update which made me understand why people do not adopt or wish to talk to rescue people… Short version, I feed wild animals outside… some feral cats that came on 4th of July, would you send the 4th of Julykittens away? Also some possums, this is what i could see, but I believe there are some dogs coming to eat too and saw also some frogs having a bath in the water ball… The cats were 3 from the 4th of July kittens, now there is another mama cat with kittens coming for food… like a friend told me, you do not feed one, you feed all… so I thought that if I contact a non-kill shelter I might save the life for the kittens at least if they are willing to take them and put them for adoption… and I just got myself in trouble… One of the shelters never answered my email and one contacted me and told me that she has already 4oo cats so I am the oneto spay the ferals… and I explained they are feral, do not stay to touch them, they hide and do not know where they live… sometimes they are here but not all the time… andthat I need help to catch them plus do not have the money to spay all the cats in the neighborhood, or outside the area… and even therewas a freespaying place (do not know about that, but she left me a number) someone still has to catch the cats, and go there and deal with it…because I know all this from just fostering 2 dogs how time consuming was the process, had to take my vacation time to do it…so from here I was told about my bad future karma, and that I am responsible for the cats, and doesn’t matter this and that and not to bother to answer because she blocked my email address anyway… So this is why people consider that rescue groups are not really nice and this is whatI got… and this is why people call Animal Control etc… So… trying to help I just got cursed with a bad karma… hmmmm…

What about that?

Daydreamer said

That saddens me, Lili.  That is what the animal rescues are there for… to rescue and help.  You won’t be the one with bad karma, they will be…

I do not know Rachel about Karma, is not what concerns me for the moment, I haven’t done anything wrong to feel quilty about, neither will worry about other people’s karma… I believe that seeing every day so much drama these people go through so much pain and get out of balance, maybe this is why I did not go to my shelter since… Is so much pain around and that traumatizes you… and this is the result… Maybe it was my mistake to ask for help, maybe they do not do that… and this is why people call Animal Control, I do not know… I know that for the moment the wild animals outside are okay… and finally who am I to decide who has the right to live? I will do what is in my power to do, give them water and food, and for the rest I will leave nature to take control… Nature will always find a way… Hugs Rachel :)
